‘Can the SENS team provide my child with glasses or a hearing aid?’

No they cannot provide these personal items or batteries for hearing aids.

‘How do I get my child referred to the SENS team?’

Through the school SENCO.

‘I live in Ealing but my child is at an out of borough school - can they still be referred to SENS?’


‘My child is at a private school - can they still be referred to the SENS team?’


Are the sitters and carers trained?

Sitters and carers have 2 days (14 hours of training) provided by the service before they are linked. This covers topics such as how the service works, the types of disabilities children might have, communicating and playing with children with disabilities, supporting families and how to keep children safe. For any specialist medical interventions required e.g. tube feeding, a Community paediatric Nurse trains the sitter/carer with the child’s family.

Are your staff trained and CRB checked?

All staff receive ongoing training and are CRB checked.

Can I become a volunteer with Southall Contact a Family?

We are always looking for volunteers to help with activities. Please phone the office for more information (020 8571 6381).

Can I bring other children in the family?

Yes. Brothers and sisters under 5 years old are welcome.

Can I discuss my concerns in person?

Yes, drop in appointments or home visits are available on request.

Can I get a grant to insulate my house?

Yes if you are on means tested benefit or aged over 60.
