Update with sad news Minimize

I had been waiting for the few quiet days in the office after the last session and just before Christmas to write another, long overdue blog about the autumn term at P.E.S.T.S.

It had been an eventful one, and not always in a good way. We started off with no Project Manager in post and then temporarily lost our Senior Play-leader because of family circumstances, and our treasurer because of injuries sustained in a car accident. There were a few weeks in October when I hardly dared to answer the phone or read my e-mails for fear of more bad news.

But at the same time we welcomed many new families to the sessions and made new friends. The remaining staff and our fantastic volunteers stepped into the breach and grew closer through it. Katerina Pupovic was appointed as the new Project Manager. We all had lots of fun on another trip to the Heathrow Gym and by the time our Christmas Party came on the 14th December, Carrie, our treasurer, had recovered enough to re-take the financial reigns, and Cathy, our Senior Play Leader, announced her return to the group in the new year. The party went well and we separated full of optimism and with many wishes of a merry Christmas and New Year.

And then the news came in that we have lost one of our special children. A happy, vivacious, wonderful 5 year old boy who has been with us for so many play sessions, parties, trips and parties, and whose parents have become friends to so many of us. A beautiful cheeky little chap who would have grown up to become a wonderful young man. Words failed and the blog remained unwritten.

And yet, here we are in the new year, hoping to continue our work of support as well as we have done in the past. When we said Good Bye to Jakub on Monday on the saddest of occasions, it was a comfort to us to see that so many of the family’s friends were there for them in this dark hour. As we also stood very close to each other because nothing but the company of good friends can sooth such sadness.

So this blog is in Jakub’s memory. Our love and prayers have gone with him but so many lovely memories remain. And may this New Year bring as much joy, happiness and friendship to our families as it has brought sadness already.
