Boccia is a paralympic sport, for which Team GB have won gold and silver medals in the 2008 and 2012 paralympic games respectively.

It is a target game, where athletes try to throw as many of their red or blue coloured balls as close as they can to a target ball (Jack). Boccia is accessible to a wide range of individuals with varying disabilities, success in the sport is not dependent on size or strength. Having good skill, strategy and subtlety is much more likely to win you a game. The sport is inclusive, so even those with severe physical impairments, or those who require augmentitive methods of communication can access the sport.

What do we do?

PACE Boccia is a club that has received a Boccia England Level 2 Club Accreditation, as a result of having a clear development plan, good coach/athlete ratios and providing a pathway for talented athletes to compete at a higher level. We deliver regular coaching sessions and currently have a squad that competes in the National League, as well as athletes who compete at Regional and National level. Two PACE Boccia athletes even compete in the England Talent Squad.

Membership to PACE Boccia costs £10 a year and includes the following:

  • Entry to regional level competitions
  • Entry to national level competitions, should they qualify
  • Entry to other Boccia England competitions
  • Access to various accredited Boccia courses
  • Opportunity to become a member of the PACE Boccia squad, should they successfully complete the trials
    • Two hours of coaching from an experienced coach who has run sessions for Boccia England
    • Athlete development monitoring
    • Target setting

In addition to this, sessions cost £3 and last for 2 hours. They include the following:

  • Two hours of coaching from a Level 2 qualified coach, who also coaches the England BC4 Squad
  • Athlete development monitoring
  • Target setting

Who is it for?

PACE Boccia is for current boccia athletes, or those who are interested in playing boccia. The nature of the sport is such that even those with complex and severe physical disabilities can participate with the support of an assistant, it is one of the most inclusive sports available.

We welcome members of all abilities, ages and experiences. Following a period of development and demonstration of ability, athletes will be given the opportunity to take part in PACE Boccia trials for the squad, who compete in the national league.
