Epilepsy Action West London Branch Award

The West London branch of Epilepsy Action has been awarded the National Branch of the Year Award for 2016.

In the autumn of 2015, a whole new team of volunteer committee members took over the running of the West London Branch. Following the retirement of previous branch officers, the new team had a hard act to follow.

Nevertheless, the branch has gone from strength to strength. Over the past year, the number of people attending the group has increased and they launched a new coffee and chat group. On average, each branch meeting is attended by an impressive number of 45 people, and the coffee and chat group is attended by an average of 24. But numbers alone do not tell the full story. The meetings are well planned, and people feel welcome, valued and respected. Members are offered support, information, interesting speakers and great experiences.

The branch maintains excellent relationships with staff at their meeting venues. They work hard to promote the branch, using posters, flyers, text messaging and updates on Facebook as well as regular reminders of their meetings and events. They take time to make new attendees feel welcomed, with Committee members often arriving early by arrangement to give the new people a chance to talk and to introduce them to what the branch can offer.

The branch has often faced challenges, but always manages through the difficulties. This is because they work exceptionally well as a team and have great group of members.

There will be a special celebration next Monday 6th March to celebrate. Click here for details.
